My husband and I raised 3 sons..We are not petite people.I am 5 ft 10,or used to be.And my husband is 6 ft 3, or used to be.We have two 6 ft 4’s and one 6 ft 8..Needless to say I cooked all the time and in large quantities. My Mama ,God bless her heart would tell me ,”You had better make a big pot of black eyed peas and a pan of corn bread and try to fill them up.”….To this day I don’t know how to cook ,”a little’.’When I make chili or spaghetti I make a pot full.My husband will ask me if were having company when my pot is fully loaded…Who makes a tad of chili or a tad of spaghetti? Not moi….We had a lot of country fried steak and maple pork chops with mashed potatoes with a side of green beans with ham.Our boys ate well..They all played sports so pork chops or steak and eggs for breakfast were common at our house. They needed the food fuel to be able to make it through the day and up and down the basketball court or football field for afternoon practices..My boys always bought their lunch at school, all the way from kindergarten through high school. We wanted them to have a hot lunch and they were not hard to please..In high school I kept money in their lunchroom accounts because they usually wanted double meat. Our lunchroom ladies were so dear ,I think they knew how much they enjoyed the home made yeast rolls and country cooking and were a little heavy handed with helpings. The ladies were known for their homemade cinnamon rolls ,squash casserole, and homemade desserts..They even made their hamburger and hotdog buns from scratch..Plus my boys were always very polite and well mannered, and very respectful. That went a long way and still does in life..They were wonderful southern cooks..My children were very lucky.
